Hi Chuck, different scenario, different problem. When it comes time to fair the hull or deck and do the sanding he will cut right through the stain/dye and expose fresh wood thus destroying the staining job. Stains and dyes don't penetrate very far into the wood. Give it a try on some scrap strips.
