Why only water based? Or did you mean not oil based? I want to darken the color of my hull as well and was thinking of using an alcohol based aniline dye since the water based dyes tend to fade very quickly in sunlight. I realize that the varnish will offer some UV protection but I wouldnt want to count on that alone.
Also, does anyone know how glazing stains hold up to UV? That would be an easy way to tint during the varnishing process and maintain more control of where the pigment goes using masking tape.
