: I want to go up and drop an Ash and
: a Maple to build paddles out of and for gunwales for my next canoe. I'm
: searching for info on anyone that has done this and an advice on what
: tools I'll need, etc... I'm good with a chainsaw, but never have I milled
: any wood. I'd like to keep it simple as posible. Thank you for your
: advice.
Simple as possible would be to hire someone with a portable bandsaw mill and have them come to your property to mill the trees into lumber. I believe that Woodmizer ( http:/www.woodmizer.com ) will give referrals to owners of their bandsaw mills in your area if you ask. You can also look in your local phone book for "Sawmills" to find a local sawyer in your area. If no luck there, try contacting come local arborists and tree removal services for leads to people with bandmills.
Milling your own lumber with a chainsaw is hot, hard, difficult, heavy, and tiring work. Even with one of those chainsaw attachments, it's still not something I would do more than once.
