Hey ya Chris

Glad you replied and enjoy the marathon kayak building spree. I woke up with an idea for the installation of rub strips for S & G kayaks in the build phase. What do you thnk about the idea on fitting a stip of okoume plywood along the inside bottom on the front and rear of the kayak with s/s T-nuts preinstalled. The idea is to make it a thin strip of 3/4 inch or so wide, the edges chmafered to fit the inside hull's varying flare, and each strip for bow and stern then thinning out to points that contact the original hull. Next, grind off the bit of original hull from the outside till the newly installed flat piece is exposed, fair it, and glass as usual. Next...you guessed it, install the UHMW rubstrips. The key is making the inside t-nut keel strip thin enough-but wide enough to contain the t-nut shoulder-down tight along the bottom inside of the keel. Post-installing after making the hull to keep the strength, like your idea.
Think it's a good plan?? What am I missing or screwing up on?

: Hey Mike, Buddy,

: Could you keep it down out there? A guy would think you're having waaaay too
: much fun doing this, "wangle the neighbor guys into building wooden
: kayaks", thing.

: Your description of Bill Todd's antics made my heart beat a little more
: passionately this morning. We should all be so lucky to be getting out on
: the water like that when we get to his age.

: I'm immediately reminded of Doc Paskowitz at the San Onofre Surf Camp. At 80
: the dude still paddles out for his share of swells. Incredible.

: Keep up the good work with the reports. They're more entertaining than
: dealing with clients.
