: NO ONE CARED at the beginning to speak up and DO something.
: Take the cape cod incident of a few days ago. Had the club members who saw
: them leave spoken to the 2 girls, they would have been informed of the
: potentially deteriorating conditons and could have made their decision to
: paddle based on new information. They could have abandoned their plans to
: paddle (preferred) OR they could have paddled only in the area of the
: launch ramp or within a few feet of the shoreline keeping it visible at
: all times. This could have been done under the guise of
: "recruiting" new members for the club. In any event, a little
: fear in the back of their minds could have saved their lives. But; NONE of
: the informed members of the club did or said anything. Was this because
: they were too lazy? Or because they felt that they didn't need to get
: involved? Or that it wasn't any of their business?
Sorry, but please get the facts straight, if you are referring to my post about the incident.
We club members we not there, but in the same geographical area of the Cape.
We evaluated the conditions and chose not to paddle.
My lamentations were that we had not see them. We were within a few miles
of where they were, perhaps at the same time, but our paths did not cross.
The few words of wisdom we might have offered, were never spoken.
If we had seen them, we most certainly would have offered unsolicited advise for them not to paddle.
Most of my group are older than my 52 years. We are way past being shy, and don't give a dam about
whether or not you want our advise, you're going to get it, if you cross our paths.
Think twice, paddle another day.
All the best,
Rob Macks
