Probably because I didn't think about that! :-) That and the fact I had a huge sack -o -clamps just sitting there. There is also the issue of squeeze out, which was considerable for me in this particular layup. To use a caul, you would need to mask it off. Still, that may be a good choice for any future work like that ........
