Looking at wood density (i.e. specific gravity) figures at the link below, it depends on what species of pine you are using. Pine species range from .35 to .59. That's a large range. For comparison, WRC is .32. If 20 lbs of my 39 lb boat (Redfish Silver) is the cedar hull, then a pine hull could weigh anywhere from 24 to 37 pounds yielding a finished boat in the range of 43 to 56 pounds. There are other considerations of course. Pine is stronger, so you could make the strips thinner. But I don't know how well this would work in practice if the wood is more prone to splitting, pitch pocket problems, etc. I do know that WRC is wonderful stuff to work with and using it will make the project go easier (than using a more problematic wood species) and probably look better too.

: Where I live, I have a hard time finding cedar boards that are relatively
: free of knots, but knot-free pine boards are much easier to find, and much
: cheaper. I know that pine is heavier than cedar, but is that small weight
: difference enough to make a difference after the boat is finished? In
: other words, how much of the total weight of the boat comes from the wood
: itself? Also, are there any other significant differences between cedar
: and pine that I am overlooking? Thanks for your input.
