: I am interested in YOUR thoughts about the pros and cons of adding owner
: information somewhere on a kayak. I am considering making a owner info
: plate and placing it under my glass (maybe on the boarder of the combing).
: Do you feel that this owner plate would add much to deter someone looking to
: steal a kayak?
owner info will aid in identifying a stolen kayak. I have thought of doing this. I'll probably just use a piece of paper with all of my relevant information written on it and glue it to the underside of the deck, out of sight and not easily seen if someone happens to look under the deck. For real security, I have run a u-bolt through the deck just behind the cockpit. The nuts have been encased in epoxy. When I am worried about security I use a heavy cable to lock the kayak up to whatever is convenient, even my roof rack. The lock is one of those tough to cut things encased in plastic for rust-proofing. So far I haveen't had any problems. Then again, I haven't really left the yak out where it might be at risk. I'd really hate to lose it and I can't stand that impotent feeling I get when something of mine has been stolen anonymously.
