I'm not so sure I understand Jay at the end of his post, but I think he might be referring to clearance of the station molds from the external strongback. I too am planning on a second kayak, and am in the same position. My solution is: set up the internal on the external and make sure that you have sufficient clearance for the stern and bow not to touch the external stronback. You may have to lower the external strongback a bit for comforts sake, but that would be minimal and easy to do.
