I am about to start my first boat ever. It is going to be a Freedom 17 or Redbird Canoe. I was going to use a 16' piece of microlam. I was going to rip it in half and glue the two pieces together to make a 4X6 microlam beam. I can get microlam practically for free and with the rising prices of OSB and ply this seemed like a good stable alternative, if a bit heavy. Any thoughts on why this would be a bad idea?

Thanks, Bob
