For those of you that do NOT know what a cabinet scraper is...let me tell you. First of all, if you go to Home Depo or Lowes and ask to purchase a cabinet scraper, you will probably get a confused look from the sales person who will probably say," you mean a scraper that you will be using to scrap cabinets, right?" Well, you be sure to tell that person, NO I mean a "CABINET SCRAPER" for scraping all sorts of surfaces. If you want to purchase a real cabinet scraper you usually need to go to your local wood working supply store - they should know what it is.
A cabinet scraper is a flat piece of steel. It works well ONLY by placing a "bur" on the edge of this piece of steel. The "bur" is just a little overhand that works as a cutting edge. Starting with a smooth flat edge on your piece of steel, you can use a file or hardened piece of steel to place this edge. When you purchase a "real" cabinet scraper, you should receive some instructions on how to place this edge. There are small devices (not too expensive) that you can purchase that help you to place an exact edge bur at a specific angle. Be sure to check out cabinet scraper accesories at your wood working supply store when you go there to purchase your scraper.
Good luck
