Give it a try. The nylon is strong and that type of string is more like a little rope with three lays. The lays create a lot of friction when you drag it across something. You are essentially giving a rope burn. When it's plastic or hot glue the heat generated will cut (melt) right through. If you go to fast the hot glue will actually get so hot it can re-flow and glue itself back together. You may have to work at finding a pace where this doesn't happen.
