: I am on the final days of work on an Osprey and I'm using System 3 WB-LPU for
: the finish coat.
: I pretty happy with the results after three coats thinned 25% with water. The
: coats were made in one day. It has now been three days since the final
: coat was applied.
: It is time for the final coat(s). Now a few questions: 1) Do I need to sand
: before the final coats? If so what grit (320, 600, 800)?
I wet sanded with 220. be careful to wipe up the water as it will damage the lpu if it hasn't totaly cured. I learned this one the hard way.
: 2) How many coats of cross-linked LPU should I use? I was thinking two would
: be good.
I did three thin coats with cross linker.
: 3) After the cross-linked coats, what do you do about drips?
You can wet sand then and touch up the area but you will see some brush marks.
: 4) Last question!!! Do you thin the cross-linked coats, or is gloss higher
: with out the addition of water?
I went 20 percent water and thin coats. Be sure to let the LPU cure, I think S3 said two weeks before you put it in the water. I know the LPU on my boat took longer as it was a bit cold out. I seemed to get alot harder finish after I had it out in the sun. I hope to have a sunny day to bake it in before I launch Carol's.
: I know the kayak board is up to it .... help!
