I carved a Greenland stick for my 7 year-old daughter to use with her SOF boat. I used the same anthropometric measurements that you use for an adult paddle and it fits her exactly. Also, considering the price of making a stick (about 4 hours and $5) vs. a lightweight wood or carbon blade ($100-200), I'd try the stick.
