: The reason(s) I like the Folbot(my two)was that they are so darn stable !
: I could sit on the side of the large cockpit, I have even been able to stand
: up and paddle/look!
: This comes in handy in the Florida Everglades, believe me !
: I know!
: But! I am not into racing kayaks!
: I need a boat and kayaks fit the bill, that are very easy to turn, back up
: and reach over and SMACK that nasty black water "moc" !
: (Who wants to share a ride !)
: One was over six foot long !

: Why hasn't some one designed a kayak with a broader beam for more stability?
: From whose of us who don't race and/or aren't "Purists"!
: And! In kit form?
: I WILL! Be bringing (send) a couple back from China when I get over there
: this March !

There are plans for skin on frame kayaks of your specifications (I feel exactly as you do). www.clarkcraft.com has plans for many (if not all) of Percy Blandford's kayak designs (as a matter of fact my wife bought me plans to BK 22), his designs make kayaks that are very similar to Folbot's older designs, at least from what I can tell from the pictures on the site (which are not very good in many cases). Do a search for "King Canvasback" you'll come up with Svenson's free boat plans site with plans for the King Canvasback which is a 15' x 31" beam (similar to the Sporty, btw) that was published in Mechanix Illustrated back in the early '70's.

If you want to make a strip kayak, rather than a SOF, from what I understand, use the same frames as either the KC or one of PB's designs to bend the strips over. To make a stitch and glue yak, I am not sure how to adapt the plans to fit.

As I posted before, I would be more than happy to buy the plans (if offered) for Super and Sporty clones that someone in China is selling. I'd also be interested in any other of Folbot's older designs they copied as well. Contact me offlist if you are willing to bring/send back the plans that I am interested in, I am *very* serious, I'd really like to build a Sporty replica and if I can afford more plans, replicas of the other boats as well.
