S&G: Using 2" 6oz tape instead of 9oz 3" tape

I was considering on the boat I am about to start using 2" 6 oz tape over the fillets. I did this on a single and it worked out fine, any comments on doing it to a large tandem" Also, I am making a North bay and Im trying to keep the weight down, anyone used 3.75 oz weight and put a little extra glass down the keel line. Im not going for bomber strength here. Any Idea how much # that would save
