Anyone out there ever seen one of these decked sailing canoes. A guy brought one into the shop today for us to make him a new CF mast today. I had never seen one before but it looked really cool. More importantly it looked like a great candidate for a strip built boat.

The International Decked Canoe is a one man craft, of about 17 feet in length, 40 inches wide, 140 lbs. stripped hull weight, and powered by 110 square feet (10 square meters) of sail. It has a novel means of creating righting moment, the sliding seat. The sliding seat is a beam which slides athwartships on a track, enabling the sailor to crawl out far to windward, much further than is possible with hiking straps, hiking wings, racks, or trapezes. The result is a long, skinny boat, very light for it's length and sail area, which goes very fast!

The class is made up almost entirely of home built boats and the offsets for the hull are in the public domain. Check out the link below and view the video of these boats in action. They just scream along.
