A couple more suggestions.
1. Masking off. Filleting in such confined space is potentially messy. It was for me, anyway. Do as much masking as you can before starting. In my rush to tack the bulkhead into place, I forgot to mask off the bulkhead. Masking it in place is a pain that can easily be avoided.
2. Tacking first. Don't go for the full fillet on the first round. Use just three or four small dabs of thickened epoxy to tack the bulkhead into position. Once they're partially cured, you can remove whatever supports or temporary handles you used (if any) to hold the bulkhead in position, so they don't interfere with the filleting.
For now, I've filletted the bulkhead, but haven't taped it. Assuming I will add a foot-pump at some point in future, is taping the joint advisable? It seems plenty rigid with just thickened epoxy. If tape is recommended, would it be more effective (ie. stronger) on the cockpit side of the bulkhead, or on the hatch side? I assume taping both sides would be overkill.
: Dave, installing that bulkhead is going to be a real pain in the neck, and
: arms, and back. Still, you have a good plan. I suggest doing this: 1.
: determine how far forward you want the bulkhead. This can be accomplished
: by sitting in your yak and positioning you feet comfortably, marking where
: your heels are and then adding 4 inches towards the bow from the heel
: location.
: 2 cut and place heavy paper or cardboard templates and trim till you get a
: good fit. You might want to tilt the forard bulkhead forward at the top to
: follow the tilt of your foot.
: 3. position your foot pump onto the bulkhead where your left or right foot
: can reach it.
: 4. plan on a layer of thin foam to cushion the foot and maybe some gray
: minicell then pads for the heels.
: Want me to send images of my yak setup?
