I'm about ready to glass the deck and found to my dismay that the 3.75 open weave s-glass from JRS does show significant weave ghosting on a sample I did yesterday. I used System 3 Clear Coat for wet-out and fill. Interestingly, the satin weave 6 oz. s-glass already on the hull does not show it. So what's the problem? While it is a very nice cloth, it can just about drive you nuts with it's love for holding onto microbubbles. I wanted something easier to deal with on the deck, but more ding resistant than many of the alternatives while keeping the boat reasonably light. Cost be damned. I use two layers of 3.25 satin on the previous boat. It looks good, and it's light, but not tough enough for the way I use the boat. So it goes. Looks like I'm headed for strength over appearance.

: Ryan,

: The photo shown here is of a couple of test panels made with 4 oz E glass and
: 4 oz S glass, taken in sunlight (4 oz plain weave E: BGF style 1522 -
: 24x22 with a 2-ply twisted yarn, and 4 oz plain weave S: BGF style 6522 -
: 24x22 made with a 2-ply twisted yarn). The side shown had two layers each,
: and one fill coat. What the photo shows is the difference in appearance
: between E glass and S glass. Both are clear, but the weave in the S glass
: is more visible. Some of the effect in this image is the interference
: (Moire) pattern caused by the two layers. Single layers of S glass simply
: show the repeating pattern of the weave.

: Have fun,
: Sam
