Mike,

Because CF has a lower density than glass fiber, it has more volume per unit of weight. So if the resin volume fraction is the same, there will be more resin in the CF lay-up than in the glass layup. If I remember correctly, it works out to about 40% more resin by volume.

The assumption here is "for the same resin volume fraction". With hand lay-up of woven reinforcements that is a pretty good assumption. If we want to compare hand laid plain weave glass and vacuum bagged unidirectional CF, then we shuld make different assumptions.
