Good question - I have no idea what viel is...

Surfacing veil is very light continuous strand mat - Fiberglast carries some. Apparently, some people also use very light woven glass rather than mat. One manufacturer, Schmelzer Industries (http://www.siveils.com/index.htm). The stuff is intended to be used against the surface of a mold.
