Hey ya

Thanks for the post, that some great info. By any chance, you know if the aviation community has gotten into Spectra cloth? That's the stuff I'm hoping gets into general composites The stuff is strong, expensive, much lighter per unit strength, expensive, wet-outs clear, expensive, easy to work on, but is unbelievably expensive.
What did you think of the kevlar? I had a hell of a time with it but the stuff is gorgeous and strong. Any guidance and instruction I'd love to hear, I firmly believe I screwed it up.
There's a Night Heron up in the Ventura area with a CF and Kevlar blend laid on the inside that really was the show-stopper at a recent kayak show down here in San Diego. The builder who I forgot his name, was incredibly patient with me as I spent hours fondling his creation.
So you want to share my CF? Not on your life! Seriously, I have to make the rest last for the next yaks.

: I have no experience with CF, other than aviation. The wings of that pesky
: thing had to have a few extra hundred pounds of CF added to them 'cause
: someone overestimated the performance of the CF.

: I replaced the 6 oz e glass on my inside hull of the first boats with 1.8 oz
: kevlar on the second, and switched from 4 and 6 oz e glass to 3.25 satin.

: Observations: I know that I used half as much epoxy on the second set of
: boats compared to the first.

: I suspect that the overall structural integrity of the second boats is as
: good or better than the first set.

: I know that the second boats are lighter than the first (32#+/- compared to
: 40#+/-).

: I think I'll try CF in spots on the next boat. Don't suppose you want to
: share some of your roll of CF? :) Mike
