This is one of the hang-ups I've considered. I think it is a lot to expect to get vacuum integrity from one coat or even several coats of epoxy over the wood. Pinholes form easily and are hard to eliminate. My idea to solve this issue was to just put a bag over the "outside" of the strips to contain the vacuum.
