: Your boat is extraordinary in its presentation. The overall feeling of a
: wooden boat is very powerful in the manner in which you have chosen the
: color and pacing of the strips. I wish the original photos were in front
: of me so I could read the hull form a little better.

Wow - now that's a positive review of a picture if I've ever read one! Thanks! And, that could well be the "original" set of photos - pictures on my digital camera just don't come out right (very often fuzzy and the color balance is quite wacky).

: This boat feels like the Chatham, the new Greenland style machine from Necky
: that I saw at this summer's Outdoor Retail Show. Is it connected to the
: design study process for that boat?

I'm sure that Grant would thank you if he saw your post! (Perhaps more for the last paragraph than this one - but still!) Grant Goltz, that is. Of Squeedunk Kayaks... You see, that's a Cormorant 18, straight (er, sort of) from the offsets published on his web site. Ok, ok, I admit it - it's not really a stripper! It's an S&G - only I made my panels out of strips.

I'm not sure, but I'd venture to say, at this point, that I wouldn't do it that way again! For one, there is a huge amount of wasted wood! I mean, I lofted on the floor and then glued up 2 matching pieces at a time to fit over my lofted lines - there was REALLY a lot of wasted wood! For another, well, in order to have the panels hold together well enough to S&G them I had to glass them first. Which made them a bit stiffer than they could (should) have been and I didn't exactly get them to stitch together in the right shape (despite much time and muscle)...

But, hey, I'm glad that I made it and got out on the water this summer! This winter I just have a few minor bakerisms to perform on it...

cheers!
