Hi TIA, I have had to deal with that before. You will want to sand/scrape away the bad glass. I suggest using a cabinet scraper as well as the blunt back edge of a utility knife. Dig/scrape/sand out all the white fibers. Sponge-over the area periodically to check your progress. You are done when the wet surface appears clear. The spot will cover seamlessly with epoxy fill coats as long as you don't go through to the bare wood.
It is not that uncommon. Believe me, it could be a lot worse
