Yo,
That kayak is looking mighty fine.

Ditto about the behind cockpit rigging for securing a paddle for the self rescue re-entry. My first seasons roll practice turned into a self rescue re-entry using my greenland paddle jammed through the rear deck rigging. Worked just fine.

Did I mention a greenland paddle is a great second paddle as they store fairly flat on the deck (mine on the front) and are really good as an outrigger. Not being feathered you can wedge a tip under the rigging behind the cockpit and the blade at the other end lies flat in the water a good distance away. With leverage, surface tension etc, I don't think I will need a paddle float (or it seems stable enough like this for me to not have to rush out and buy a paddle float) as I had no trouble sitting astride the back deck doing a little bailing and then wriggling into the cockpit and away.

Bungees infront shouldn't be too close to the front of the cockpit. I have built two guillemot s&gs now. The first one I rigged the bungies as close to the front of the cockpit as I dared (I am creaky and inflexible and I was figuring if I had the bungees too far away I would never reach my goodies stashed there). Well I used little plastic knobby things for the rigging and with my low greenland style paddling I nick the fittings occasionally with my knuckles or paddle. Nothing severe, just an occasional annoying wake up call.

So for Guillemot #2 I pushed the rigging forward about 6" to a positon exactly about where you have them in the picture. That should be just fine. Bringing it back any more may make it easier to get at, but then you will risk the knuckles like I did first time around.

Happy paddling, be safe

Cheers Pete
