The instructions I used from the Waters Dancing manual had me precoat and let dry to touch before I glassed. I filled any gaps with thickened epoxy and precoated at the same time. The next day I then glassed. The dried epoxy was sanded to smoothness and all joints rounded for shape. The glassing went very well with no difficulties encountered. I realise that this method takes longer BUT it went trouble free for me when I did my first kayak (and second). I wouldn't ever apply glass to tacky epoxy because it isn't going to lay easily and wrinkles would be near impossible to remove.

If anyone has a better way now's the time.
