I used some Helmsman Spar varnish on my wooden front door. This varnish also has UV protectors in it. The door faces west and isn't sheltered by anything like a porch. It's been 4 yrs now and I've yet to have to think about refinishing it. No cracks, checks, peeling, etc.

IMO, it's a decent product that does it's job very well. So, that being the case, yes, I did get what I paid for - outdoor varnish with UV protection that lasts.
