I just noticed an old thread regarding take-apart (aka: sectional) kayaks.... Making Your Kayak a Take-Apart, Sea Kayaker Magazine, Summer 1991. I have the magazine, I have the kayak, I wrote the article. It is usually done for air travel reasons. The kayak in the article is a Necky Arluk I, which is 19 feet by 21 inches. I have also built a bulkhead-free, 4 part, hard bottom, fabric top, take-apart, similar in shape to a VCP Nordkapp and also a 4 part real VCP Nordkapp, which nests into 2 parts, with bulkheads at the outer joints and flanges in the middle (in the cockpit). I would consider selling the red/white Arluk I take-apart and/or providing information if there is interest. I have two or three changes to suggest regarding the steps in the article, but generally, it is fine. The Arluk I has a full foam covering and a heavy nylon cover. I am new to this board...it is great to see people building boats!
