: He has taped the backsides of the veneer pieces with really cheap masking

sounds like a good plan
but anyway you should have made him insert loops of jumping orcas!
it'll be fun planning the perimeter fittings, whether or not to put them in the lg or small loops. i think i'd choose the large so the perimeter lines sort of alternate or play against the looping veneer, either way will be cool.
