While I receive a fair amount of spam, I don't get any from the address I use on this bulletin board. However, if people feel this is a problem, I can configure the bulletin board so it does not display the email addresses. Instead if you wanted to email someone you would be given a form which would email them for you without telling you the address you are sending to.
At this time the script does not send the email address to spiders and harvester bots. For example compare http://www.kayakforum.com/cgi-bin/Building/index.cgi/noframes/read/67068 to the cached version on Google: http://216.239.41.104/search?q=cache:www.kayakforum.com/cgi-bin/Building/index.cgi/noframes/read/67068
Notice that the email address does not appear in the cached version. This is by-no-means fool proof. A spider program could disguise itself as a real person. But, so far it seems to work.
While I can make it so the email never appears for anyone, I think there is some value in making it easier for people to start off-BBS discussion. The email-form system would work OK, but would not be as convenient.
