The Veritas sharpening jigs are the best for an inexpensive way to sharpen planes, spokeshaves, and chisels. Buy the Veritas set which has an angle jig to get the initial primary angle, and the honing jig. The honing jig will finish the primary bevel, and then change the primary angle to the microbevel without removing the iron from the honing jig. (about 2 degrees or so greater angle) To use the Veritas honing jig with a spokeshave iron you need a blade extension so the smaller spokeshave iron will fit in the jig. All of this stuff will cost about $40 US.

I use the sandpaper method described in the earlier thread. Cheap and extremely effective!!! A website www.hocktools.com describes the sandpaper method in detail. Also at www.woodcentral.com has, I believe "The Scarey Sharp" sharpening method which also describes the sandpaper method.
