I will try the heat gun first.
The area that needs fixing is less than a foot long, hopefully I can get it all warm enough without causing more damage.
I hadn't done much sanding, just enough to see if it would make a difference. I was going to wait until this weekend so I could take it outside for more sanding. To much dust to sand it in the house.
