One reason I pre-sealed all the wood immediately after staining my Night Heron is to limit this kind of problem. Some drips are hard to avoid. By sealing the stain behind epoxy a drip just becomes a thicker seal coat. You can file, scrape or sand down the drip without damaging the surrounding stain. You still don't want to go through the seal coat.
