Although this is probably not what you'd want to use for your stained wood, I've found a large farrier's rasp, normally used on horse hooves, is a great tool. This thing doesn't look like something you'd even want in the same room as your boat, but it works amazingly well. It is double sided with one side coarser than the other and about 1.5' long. I found gloves were required or it would shred my hands. I used it extensively for fairing out Beth's Silver (it's really the only fairing tool I used besides the ROS). It makes those nasty bits of glue and epoxy vanish. It will scar the wood some, but I was able to work all those out later. With practice, you can also learn to use it with a light touch.
Presently, I'm again using it often while building two Greenland SOFs. It does wonders for rounding over edges, creating notches/cutouts, and flattening mortices. Obviously not for every job, but a good tool to have around.
I'd imagine they could be picked up at any store catering to the horse crowd and blacksmiths often make a buisness forging them.
