: Well I gathered from the lack of responses to my earlier post about messing
: up the stain on my S&G panels that y'all agreed with the 'train wreck'
: diagnosis. It looks like that's indeed true. I tried to dab stain onto the
: bare patches and blend it in to the edges and suceeded only in making the
: panels look like they have Psoriasis. My next strategy is to add more
: stain to the back 3 feet or so on each side to try and match the darker
: shade all around but I'm resigned to probably having to order new panels
: and re-build the whole deck. It's depressing but I guess that's what I get
: for trying to get too fancy on my first boat. Damn, I had the fit just
: perfect too.

: Note to Self: Baby sit the fresh glue-up next time and wipe up ALL drips
: until it sets. No scraping on stained panels either.
Don't give up so quickly. There are lots of "faux finish" artists who could do a nearly-undetectable job of finishing the damaged portion of the panel to match the stained portions. It would be much cheaper and less time-consuming than re-building. Or maybe a nice accent feature/design/scene could be painted on?
