To get the radii for my stiffeners for my Chesapeake, I just made a cardboard pattern that matched the front of the hole where I removed the hatch piece, made another from the back. When I moved these in about an inch on the bottom of the hatch cover, they still matched the arcs of the deck.
I made my stiffeners from solid wood so there would be no spring back.
