: I always do a fillet between the wires, but it's actually slightly smaller
: than the finish fillet. That way when I do the finish fillet, which covers
: the entire joint, it is smooth. I still sand it with 80 grit emery cloth
: wrapped around a short 3/8" dowel rod to finish it up.

I was wondering if anybody let the fillet harden before taping. My kit instructions make it sound like you have to tape right after filleting, which is what I did (and it works well). However, the directions call for tacking between wires and letting that harden before removing wires, then filleting and taping.

I made the tack bead narrow enough to fill the seam in between wires plus a bit more. (Actually, my early efforts were not as narrow as I'd hoped because I made the dookie schmutz too runny.) Anyway, the wires came out easily, and then the "line of earthworms" -- that's what the hardened tack line looks like to me -- was covered over with a nice smooth fillet and taped while the fillet was still soft.

What a difference a little practice makes...wish I could redo all the earlier seams so they are neater. Oh, well.

As for the original question, whether the holes fill may depend on how big they are and how much epoxy is applied. I found that even plain epoxy filled the holes unless I did the thinnest of coats, thin enough that the texture of the wood still was palpable. Anything thicker than would at least plug the holes, if not fill them completely through. I'm sure even those would fill up upon epoxying the other side. Places where there are both glass and epoxy are filled, though some I can still see light through. With wood-thickened epoxy, the light transmittal does not happen.
