: I was wondering if anybody let the fillet harden before taping.
It's better to do the tape when the fillet is still soft, but on my S&G canoe I ended up doing the tape months after I filleted. I tabbed between the wires, pulled the wires, finished the tabbing, then did another thin layer over the entire length of the seam. I ended up moving to the outside of the hull and didn't get back to the inside for a long time. I just sanded those interior fillets good and taped right over them and epoxied the entire inside. It worked fine. The inside holes filled up just fine and any I missed (like if they were wide of the fillet) certainly filled with epoxy when I taped.
The outside holes didn't fill entirely and I debated and debated over what to fill them with. I finally just did it with dookie smutz - epoxy, silica, and a mix of pine and maple flour to get reasonably close to the epoxied Okoume look. It's a little darker than the rest of the boat but barely noticeable.
