While I have been enjoying the kayak building work immensely, the jury is still out whether or not I can continue doing this. Working as a boat builder pays about one quarter of what I was making in at high tech and at software companies. My wife is on me to find a “real job” and I have two kids fast approaching college.

I have been using some of my other skills to add value; doing business development, marketing hull design licensing, web design and some sales as well as building the boats but I am still getting paid hourly like all the other guys on the shop floor. It is a big financial burden to be doing this and I am not sure the owner can afford to pay me what I earned previously.

So I am doing a part time search for another high tech job but my heart is not into it.
