I read an essay by Jay Bambina on glassing...it was very informative...I think the essay appeared on the Newfound Woodwrorks' website...he callibrates the measurements on a plastic "cocktail" cup...the clear ones, not the ones that are opaque (as we used to drink beer out of in college).

The set up is, at least two "cocktail" cups nested, one to hold the liquid and the other to make your calibration marks on. Pour the amounts of liquid you wish to calibrate on the inside cup, mark the levels on the outside one. I used three cups because the marker ink tended to smear, and I wanted to keep the inside calibrated cup as clean as possible throughout it's use. I used water mixed with diswashing liquid to find the levels, and a sharpie with a thinner liner to make dotted lines where the levels ended up. I also marked one set "A" and one "B" so I wouldn't confuse them. I'll never pay the $10 for a set of calibrated pumps again.
