Greg,
I haven't tried the gorilla glue, but the AV515 foams quite a bit. I do not see that as a problem, because the foamed glue line slices off with a utility knife, and you can sand the residue without destroying the sand paper. While this is my first boat, I have made a bit of furniture, and the difference in the ease of sanding between any PVA and the polyurethane is remarkable. Having faired most of the hull exterior yesterday, I have nightmares about how much scraping you would have to do if you used PVA. With the polyU I simply fired up the sanders and have at it.
The brown hands are indeed a pain - my clients (I am a lawyer) are making very bad jokes and in very poor taste. A pot scourer removes most of the gunk from the hands, along with some serious exfoliation!
I am still toying with ideas for the deck. An early idea was to strip the deck like an Australian Aboriginal "skeleton" painting of a crocodile - the shape is right, it would look really trick, and shouldn't be too hard. Given that BIG saltwater crocs live where I paddle, it seems kind of appropriate. However I am leaning towards a more "classical" look. I think I will just let inspiration take over once I start.
I will post some more pics after I glass the hull. I am probably going to modify the boat to include a rudder like my Mirage, so the glassing might be a little time yet.
Cheers, Tony
