Wow, way to make those syringes last! Sounds like a perfect way to mix a variety of quantaties of resin....less waste! Good description below...I'm not sure how good Matthew is at visualization, but I get it with out a phototgraph. Say, do you think vinigar would work as a less toxic replacement for the acetone that you use? Just wondering...I get my syringes from my dentist's office...$35-$40(US) per fifty...just made an order... the first order lasted me over two years.

: containers with lid. You can use any sturdy container you find as long as
: it has a lid to protect the resin/hardener from contamination. The YOP
: containers were washed out carefully so ensure they were clean. In one
: went the resin, in the other went the hardener. I have two syringes, one
: for each spoxy ccomponent. Both syringes were etched with eual graduations
: using a tape measure so that I could get three portions per syringe. Each
: portion is the same with both syringes. When I am using epoxy, I use three
: portions from the resin syringe and one portion from the hardener syringe.
: This recipie is for the West System Hardener that I use. The point is,
: whether I am using three syringes of resin to one syringe of hardener, or
: one syringe of resin to one-third of a syringe of hardener, my
: measurements are deadly accurate. I rinse the syringes in acetone by
: pumping in and out until the resin/hardener has been washed out. For that
: I use a glass bottle to store the aceetone and keep it filled up enough so
: that the syringes can reach into it. Once the syringes have been cleaned
: they should be taken apart and stored so that they can dry out until the
: next use. For this I use a yogurt container that has been carefully
: cleaned. When the acetone gets really dirty I burn it outside and refresh
: the bottle with new stuff. The syringes should last long enough to
: complete a kayak, longer if you keep them clean.

: Note: be extremely careful when etching the syringes (I used a razor blade)
