you can use toothpicks to plug the holes.

You can use toothpicks to plug the holes. Put a drop of glue on them, tap them into the holes and score them with a sharp knife slightly above the surface. then snap them off at the scoring. When the glue dries sand them flush -- a matter of mere seconds each.
