: I found info on recessed deck fittings on the web and thought I could make
: similar by turning them on the lathe. Photos show how they turned out. I
: would appreciate any comments on whether anyone thinks they will work or
: not. They are rounded on the bottom to make them easier to glass over, I
: hope.

very nicely done.
I do not think you need to glass these on the back side, they should be strong enough.(??) A couple of coats of Epoxy resin for water proof on the back side should suffice.
If you do want to glass, a smooth transition (a slope I guess, or a concave curve) to the back side of the kayak would work better. As is, you will still have a hard transition to the back... but that would be fixed easily enough with a fillet, prior to putting the glass on. So it does not really matter. Infact now that I think with all three brain cells it would defeat the purpose. as cutting it to a slope would weaken it, and no doubt cut into the recess leaving a hole in the kayak....
so now that the rambeling has stopped I have to conclude... very nice.
The inlay (I cant spell marquetrie, so I have to call it inlay) work looks like it will be fantastic!
