Strip: Solid Aspen wood strips ?

Greetings,

the other day found at Menard's some planks of Solid Aspen wood (by Mastercraft), it seems to be wood to be used for cabinets or built-in furniture. I bought one 8' plank because it was a beautiful clear colour, and tought it would look nice in the deck of the Guillemot I'm beginning to build.

Question: does anybody have any experience using this type of wood in a strip kayak ? It looks like pine, but seems a lot lighter. I cut a strip and it flexes well, with not problem, but I'm worried if maybe it shouldn't be used due to some inherent limitation.

Thanks in advance

Hugo (I cut 20 strips today, have 3 more planks to work on tomorrow, man this is nice ! :-)
