Hugo, I used Aspen as accent pieces on my yak. From what I could tell, it behaved very much like WRC (ripping, B&C, sanding, etc) with one exception. I had problems planing the strips when fairing the hull. I faired the Aspen with a palm sander with no problems.
Good luck,
Shawn
: Greetings,
: the other day found at Menard's some planks of Solid Aspen wood (by
: Mastercraft), it seems to be wood to be used for cabinets or built-in
: furniture. I bought one 8' plank because it was a beautiful clear colour,
: and tought it would look nice in the deck of the Guillemot I'm beginning
: to build.
: Question: does anybody have any experience using this type of wood in a strip
: kayak ? It looks like pine, but seems a lot lighter. I cut a strip and it
: flexes well, with not problem, but I'm worried if maybe it shouldn't be
: used due to some inherent limitation.
: Thanks in advance
: Hugo (I cut 20 strips today, have 3 more planks to work on tomorrow, man this
: is nice ! :-)
