: Here is an updated photo for those who asked for progress. He has finished
: all the deck design and has glassed the deck. In all over 100 hours to
: inlay the patterns.
The time and effort certainly is apparent!
In hindsight, I think he wishes that he took more
: time, since some of the inlays were not deep enough and he sanded through.
: Although patched in places, one can still see the mistakes.
He's his own worse critic! Tell him to lighten up. If anyone makes a comment...like "hey, you sanded through and patched on this one..." I'd tell 'em to give it a try themselves! See how it feels to do that kind of detail on a piece of paper, let alone on the deck of a sea kayak!
I think that
: as he went along, he wished it was going faster and became complacent with
: technique.
I think as we all go along, there are times we all wish it could go faster...no matter what stage of the project it is. Sometimes, "ya gots ta do, what ya gots ta do!"
That said, it still is great looking and one has to admire his
: dedication on this his first boat.
That's his first boat? He did that inlay on his "first" boat? Wow, I wonder what will happen when he gets to his third!
Thanks for posting the picture...he should be proud of her...relish the oohs and ahhs from onlookers and the rubber necking of passing motorists as she sits on his car's roof in traffic to or from the water.
