In Response To: Paddle: Greenland Paddle (Joe Pitzner)
: My concern is the paddle may be too
: heavy for long distance paddles.
Hi Joe. I built my first paddle from Sitka Spruce. Port-Orford-Cedar is almost the same weight dry see http://www2.fpl.fs.fed.us/TechSheets/SoftwoodNA/htmlDocs/chamaelawson.html and http://www2.fpl.fs.fed.us/TechSheets/SoftwoodNA/htmlDocs/piceasitchen.html My paddles turned out very light. I wouldn't worry about it. Hang it on the wall if it turns out too heavy to use on the water
