I like to have a little glass cloth hanging over the edge to absorb resin drips. Two to four inches is about right. That way a little extra resin doesn't go straight to the floor. Once the resin is hardened it cuts very easily with a utility knife. Easier than cutting unsaturated cloth. Do be careful though, you are creating sharp edges when you trim back the saturated cloth.
